Friday Feature: The Catdance Festival

Since this Sunday is the Blog Blast for Peace, I have switched my usual Sunday Catinee to Friday, and I have something exciting for all you kitty cinephiles: the Catdance Film Festival, which will run during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT in January, 2013! We are not talking about your usual silly camera-phone videos, but real, scripted feline mini-features under 4 minutes in length. Something along the lines of The Trials and Tribulations of Patrick Chesterfield II:

If you can’t see the above video, click here to watch it on YouTube!

This was made by a pair of real filmmakers, as were the other videos on the official Catdance Festival page, but Fresh Step, Catdance’s sponsor, is looking for aspiring auteurs amongst the cat community! If you can get creative and tell a short kitty story, you are invited to submit a short subject of four minutes or less at the Catdance Festival page between now and December 9! A panel of judges will pick five films to be shown at Catdance, and the filmmakers will be flown out to be part of the festivities. After the event, there will be a voting competition and the winner will get $10,000!

Finally, the cat video has become a legitimate art form. It is about time.

And yes, Katie has been informed of this competition!

That is a great video and it will be fun if we get to see the video’s that are entered in the contest. Maybe Katie will win another one. Take care.

The only dancing I do (according to my human) is the litterbox two-step…..I do get somewhat carried away with my fancy foot work before and after doing my “thing” ! I say we cats should get our groove on more often….it’s good exercise anyway.

Oh boy, more kitty films! We watched the whole, big, all of the last ones with the Momma and the Daddy, and we watch Henri whenever his channel is on. But sadly, the Momma can barely get our picture somedays, so we are sure we will never see the silver screen!

Why, this is an EPIC! It ranks right up there with Papillon and The Great Escape! Oh, the Humans *are* wicked! Poor Muffin–er, Patrick.

By the way, I was delighted to see this as from your title I feared some hideous feline version of Riverdance. ::shudder::
