By now you are probably all aware that our fellow blogging and Tweeting cat, Sebastian, escaped from a devastating apartment fire with his humans, and that they lost everything they had. You also may have heard that several of their neighbor’s pets lost their lives in this fire. One of these was Cosmo, a 14-year-old cat owned by Kathi, a friend of Sebastian’s human, Amy, and who, like Amy, is a volunteer for Wayside Waifs, an animal rescue in Kansas City, MO. Kathi’s other cat, CJ, was saved, but he was badly burned on his paws, ears, face and mouth. He is home now, recuperating, but burns are painful, and the recovery is rarely easy. Unfortunately, Kathi had not yet purchased renter’s insurance, so she really lost everything in this fire, and now she has bills from CJ’s vet stay to deal with. Even though they are new to you, I hope you will give a little bit to help Kathi and CJ — they have been through a lot! There is a ChipIn below, and I will also be running the widget on my sidebar for the next month. At the moment the ChipIn isn’t updating because Kathi’s PayPal was just set up a couple of days ago, but that should be fixed soon.

We are glad that CJ is recuperating, but how awful for him and his Mom. We note tht the Chip In is not showing any money even though there have been donations. Is there anyw ay to fix that?
Kathi didn’t have a PayPal account until one was needed to set up the ChipIn widget. As soon as the link between the PayPal account and her bank is verified, the donations will start showing up.
Thank you so much Sparkle for posting this and widening the circle. I spoke briefly with Sebastians mom last night – they are all still feeling somewhat numb but are slowly gathering things to start a new life.
Poor little CJ. I do so hope she recovers from those nasty burns and that she’s not in a lot of pain. It must be just terrible. But thank God she’s alive and that her peep is taking good care of her. I’m sending prayers for both her and the brother she lost. This is just too sad for words so I’m just gonna say…. purr.
We read about Kathi and CJ over the weekend and we got our mom to donate some green papers to them and Sebastian too.

How very sad. This is the first I have read about this. The publicist will see what she can do but this is a very, very bad month for her.
We were just so horribly sad to hear about that fire! We have already donated to Sebastian and will also donate to Kathi and CJ. Mom simply cannot losing a precious baby to a fire. Purring CJ heals quickly.
It is all so very sad for everyone and we are teying to help a little bit too as we can. It all makes my heart hurt.
We is so sad about that. We are so frustrated that a few of our web clients are so far behind in payments that we have no money. But we have been doing out best to get the word out there to richer friends than us.
I feel for Kathi and especially for CK. Thank Cod there was a vet right there. About a dozen years ago, a cat in NYC area got severely burned getting her newborn kittens from a burning barn. She kept going back until she had all the kittens.
