New Hope for Kitties in Peril

“I can’t believe she just did that!” said my human as she stared at our computer screen.

Of course I had to jump up on the desk and take a look. What I saw made me rub my face against the edge of the MacBook. I totally wanted to put my mark on this news!

Our friend in Connecticut, Robin Olson, has started a cat rescue. Just like that. Went from “Someday I’m gonna get it together and do this” to “I’ve done it!” in barely the blink of an eye. Robin is a woman of action, especially when it comes to cats, which is one of my human’s favorite things about her.

Of course, Robin isn’t exactly a newbie in the cat rescue community. She has been saving cats’ lives for over a decade and has developed a special radar for cats who are in dire need of a savior. You saw the proof a few weeks ago right here: it was Robin’s blog, Covered in Cat Hair, where I first saw the adorable black kitty who was in danger of being euthanized at a Georgia animal control facility. But because Robin posted about her, I, along with several other bloggers sent the word out across the internet. The kitty (now known as Freya) was saved and transported to her new home in Little Rock, AR — plus several other kitties from the same ACC found rescue because of all the attention Freya got.

This sort of thing is not unusual on Robin’s watch. Not long after Freya’s rescue, she saved a cat named Chester. The deaf, 21-year-old senior escaped from his humans’ car while they were eating at a restaurant not far from Robin’s home. Days passed and nobody could find Chester. A heat waved loomed on the weather report. Robin couldn’t sleep, so early in the morning she tramped through the woods near the restaurant and with her amazing cat radar, managed to find Chester, who was near death. Because Robin cared, Chester recovered and is now back home in Maine with his family.

So as you can see, Robin is no ordinary cat-loving human. If anyone should have a rescue, it is definitely she. Robin is also one of those people who is best in the heat of the moment, so it’s no surprise that she announced her decision and is already rescuing cats before getting absolutely everything in order — you know, paperwork, non-profit status, a working website, all that boring stuff that you humans think you need before actually doing anything. Robin has clearly been taking lessons from the kitties she rescues because she knows that it’s more important to save lives first. Once the kitties are safe, she can focus on the technicalities.

This group of kittens are the start of Robin’s new rescue, Kitten Associates. Robin needs some funds to handle their care, so here is the Chipin Widget.
