One of the things I love about my human visitors here is that they are more caring and generous than the average human. So I know lots of you out there want to help the earthquake victims in Haiti. There are hundreds of organizations out there that say they are helping. Although some of them are scams, most of them are well meaning. But that doesn’t mean that all these organizations are able to put your money to the best use. Some have administrative and fundraising costs that eat up a lot of the money that gets donated to them. That’s why it’s a good idea to visit the Charity Navigator website before you give. They rate charities and show you how much actually winds up going to their causes.
If you are planning to donate to help the Haitians, Charity Navigator has set up a page with the top-rated organizations. You can look up the statistics on each group and visit the group’s website so you can make an informed decision.
It’s always a wonderful thing to give, but it’s even better when you give wisely.

That’s a great resource. Not only does it provide detailed information, but you would think it also puts pressure on those organizations that get less than top marks to improve.

I hate to say this but right now Haiti is not suffering from a lack of money but for some reason, the aid is not being distributed as well as it should. I’ve been following the news all week. Thanks for the suggestion though, Sparkle.
A heads up to say that UK tax payers can give an extra 28% on their donations to support the important work being done by aid agencies in Haiti when they check the Gift Aid box.
