Hooray for Sparkle! You were first on Tnchick’s PH-comment-lista and you are first commenter on Anna’s blog!! (which entitles you to an extra link there!)

Great take on the PH-theme. Fresh flowers! Yes, roses are yummy, but you were very considerate to warn all the two-legs about toxic plants for us cats.

I’m helping Anna with her blog today on account of the NaBloPoMo-thing for March. But Anna’s says that I can spend more time on my on blog Sara Cat writes/SaraKatt skriver

Those are pretty flowers and they are good to eat. We have never had the chance to try them but we hear from other kitties that they are delicious. Great picture.

I am VERY VERY glad you told me about lilies, Sparkle. I had no idea that they are toxic to cats. Lilies are my favorite flower and I grow them in abundance in my gardens. I often bring them inside because I love them. I will be sure not to do it anymore!!! I think you may have saved Livvy’s life! :D

Thanks, as always, for your special P.S.A. for cats. :D

P.S. Beautiful flowers! I played, too.

Sparkle, is there really any place out of reach for a cat?

  10. Isolated Existence

Very cute picture! I didn’t know that some flowers can kill cats! Thanks for the info. We have a cat and although I don’t buy flowers often is good to know…

    Enjoy your weekend!

Those are very pretty flowers and we didn’t know they were edible! Every time our humans bring flowers in the house we don’t even get to sniff them before they go up really, really high but now we know we can eat the roses! Thanks for the fresh flower tips Sparkle!

Thanks for reminding us about the lilies and other flowers that can be toxic.
We make rose petal tea, it’s delicious plain or mixed with rooibus, but I’m wondering if there are any toxic sprays/fertilizers/pesticides on the roses? Oh no something else to think about…you got me wondering…
OK I just looked it up, there’s not much info but here’s some of what I found:
Few people are aware that conventionally grown flowers are laden with unseen dangers. Seventy percent (70%) of the flowers sold in the US are imported from South America, where they use over 25 pesticides that have been outlawed in the US due to their carcinogenic nature. Coupled with child labor and poor working conditions for the farmers, there’s good reason to start buying certified eco and socially conscious flowers.

    Facts

    * Conventionally grown flowers are laden with chemicals – highly toxic & carcinogenic ones
    * They’re bad for the health of you, the farmers that grow them and our water
    * 80% of all flowers sold in the US are imported, primarily from Columbia & Ecuador
    * Foreign flower workers are exposed to 25 different pesticides not used in the US because they are so dangerous – how ironic that they end up here anyway
    * 20% of Ecuador’s 60,000 flowers workers are children – most vulnerable to the harmful effects of chemicals

Well, there you have it, might not be such a good idea to eat those roses! Sorry to ruin your happy moment, but it got me to thinking and I just had to check it out.

  13. Sniffie and the Florida Furkids

Mom has to put roses way up high ’cause Sniffie likes to chew the stems right under the heads :(

Great photo hunt, Sparkle, and great PSA about poisonous flowers too!

  15. Scott

My wife does love the fresh flowers, especially roses. We don’t have to worry about cats getting into them.

Thanks for dropping by my blog and I hope I see you again soon.

  16. Ratty

This is something I never thought about before. Thanks for the information. And maybe he should have brought you some roses of your own, just for a snack.

  17. Fin

Very helpful Sparkle. I used to enjoy a nibble of Baby’s Breath till Mom found out it can cause a kitty to get sick. Rats

I never knew some flowers could harm cats! Luckilly for me my dog doesn’t eat my flowers!

  19. Kathy

I didn’t know so many flowers were toxic! I’ve been allowing tulips in my home for years, though I do keep them up high so the cats don’t knock over their vase. To be sure, I’ll stick with silk flowers.
