You are probably wondering why you’re looking at Boodie for this week’s Photo Hunt theme of “Free.” It’s simple: she is the only one of us three cats who was free. Both Binga and I cost something to acquire — there was a fee to spring Binga from the city shelter and I came from a breeder. Boodie didn’t cost anything. In fact, my human claims she was “foisted” on her.
Many years ago, my human volunteered occasionally for the Amanda Foundation. She would go “socialize” the cats, which meant she would brush them and play with them for a couple of hours. (Pretty easy work, if you ask me!) This was around the time her old cat, Harlot, died. She did not want Binga to get used to being an only cat (she already sensed Binga’s megalomaniac tendences), so she asked if she could foster a cat. They handed her Boodie.
Boodie and her sister had been left in a box in the parking lot of a vet clinic when they were about five months old. One of the vet’s clients at the time was the Amanda Foundation (they have their own clinic now). Usually the Amanda Foundation gets their rescue cats and dogs by pulling them off death row at the L.A. city shelters, but they agreed to take the two kittens. Those kittens hated people! They were scared and hissed if anyone tried to get near them. So my human had a job ahead of her when she agreed to foster Boodie. In fact, Boodie hid behind the washer and dryer for a couple of days before she was able to get her out and isolate her.
Isolating her for a week or so helped get Boodie used to humans, although she is pretty shy to this day. The Amanda Foundation called once to have somebody look at Boodie, but that was it. My human got busy and couldn’t volunteer there anymore and they never asked for Boodie back.
But just because Boodie was free, it does not mean she is easy. And it costs at least as much to have her around as it does either me or Binga. So maybe Boodie isn’t so free after all.

We think Miss Bodie is beautiful. jane was also free, and was ‘dumped’ as a kitten so we can understand how traumtic that can be. We’re glad Bodie has a good forever home now!

Zoey is like Boodie…she was free too…she was found wandering around our dad-guy’s business and mom trapped her…but she sure has cost alot since between all the feliway and animal behaviorist appointments and medication. Zoey is not an easy kitty to live with…
We have a whole bunch of cats here that are like Boodie. Three of them will not come in the house. They are wild. But Mom still loves them a lot. So Boodie, we understand you being shy and you are very lucky to have such a good hoooman to take you in and be patient with you.

There’s an old saying around here that if you have a cat with a bad attitude, lock him in the barn for a week. That’ll change his ‘tude real fast. My cats, Milo and Fuzzy (full-blood tabby cats) were always maniacs. I’d put them in the basement for a day or two, and WOW what a change.
But because they are tabbies, they always reverted back to being nasty. Now that they are outside cats, they are the happiest, friendliest things. LOL
We were both free. We were both reskuse! Snowball was born into srayvery and Cheetoes got kicked out by her old family.(By the way,her name is Cheetoes because that was her name when she was kicked out by her last owners and she was old anof to have learnd her name. But our current people named Snowball.)But now we are happy that we have a furever home!
Boodie is a gorgeous girl with beautiful floofy furs and a sweet face; we love her white gloves and socks!…Our Mommy has a tshirt from a Sheryl Crow concert that says “Love is free”…Have a fun day lovely friends…xo…Calle, Halle, Sukki
Alla us cats here were free…and mosta us were freeloaders before that…or starving, as Mommy says. We just show up and Mommy & Daddy take us in.

My Benjamin was left with his brothers in a box between the doors of a store I worked at. All the kats found a home with someone from the store. I cannot imagine life without him….

Free cats can be expensive, though! The Human first got Clarkie, one of The Kitties Who Came Before, when he was about 8 weeks old. She ended up having to spend almost $1000 at the vets before he was even here for two weeks! (He did end up living a long and happy life though, so she considers it money well-spent!)

Da firstest cat was free… until da first vet bisit, da 2 sets of curtains wrecked, and da next hundred vet bisits. O, I spose they had to feed him afore his firstest vet bisit, but da litter box dey bot him? Nefur used, so dat don’t count.
Vet bills? $$$$
Food? $$
15 years of trainin our mom? Priceless.
Boodie is bootiful! Not that you’re not, Sparkle! All my cats were free when they came in the door, but they’ve cost me a little (!) since then. They’re busy working off what they owe to the company store.
Aw, 1 special kitty + 1 special person = 1 wonderful furever home!!! Lovely!

We think Boodie is one great looking kitty! We don’t have a free photo – we all costed moneys, but our Mom doesn’t regret it a bit!! Boodie, we think your Mom wouldn’t have cared whether you were free or costed moneys either!!
