Every year about this time, my human gathers all her paperwork together for her income tax preparer. These photos are from February 2004, and it’s amazing how little things have changed over the years. She pulls out the brown accordion folder and the calculator and starts messing with a big pile of papers. To this day, she still uses the same calculator! For the past five years or so, she has sworn that next year she will use Quickbooks to organize her numbers — in fact, it is already installed on her computer — but she never does it.
The one thing that has changed — and we cats are very grateful that it has — is that now she does all her figuring in her office, or if her office is too cluttered, like it is this year, on the dining table. Back at the old house, she used to do her taxes on our bed! Right where we wanted to sleep. Tempers always ran high at tax time.
And it’s not like this tax thing took an afternoon and it was over. My human would work on it until late into the night… for several days!
There are times when the phrase “make the best of it” rings hollow. I am glad that there is no more tax stuff on the bed.
