My brand new book, Dear Sparkle: cat-to-cat advice from the world’s foremost feline columnist, comes out August 18, so you know I’ve been planning a contest around it! And this contest has a couple of surprises attached!

The winner will get a PAW-tographed copy of my book, of course, but they will also get a second prize that I will announce at a later date. It is a very cool bonus prize! But to get a chance to win, you will have to guess something. I will give you a hint about what it is:

In case you couldn’t figure it out, or you are wondering why there is a photo of a broken baby scale here, well, this is what my human uses to weigh us cats at home. Yes, it is missing a part but it still works. The winner of the contest will have guessed how much we three cats weigh, or at least they will have come closer than anyone else. It will take a little bit of math skill, because you have to guess the sum total of our weights: my weight + Binga’s + Boodie’s = your guess. Don’t worry, I will give you some hints. Here is the first one:

That’s right — I weigh more than 0 pounds! I will also remind you — because I have said it more than once — that Binga and Boodie weigh considerably more than I do. You can get a good look at them here:

This is a closer photo of Binga. She is hoping this picture does not make her look fat.

Boodie wants to remind you that she has a lot of fluff so she may not weigh as much as you think. (You fluffy cats know how that goes.)

To be honest, we cats don’t really like being weighed — it is annoying having to stand on the dumb scale and hold still. So — and this is one of the surprises — my human does not have the correct answer yet! She will weigh us sometime within the next couple of weeks. So you will be guessing a number that is not yet known!

Here are the rules, in a nutshell:
- To enter, you must guess how much all three of us cats weigh and add it together.
- The guess must be in pounds and ounces, since we live in the U.S. and my human has problems doing kilo conversions.
- Your guess must be in a comment to this specific blog post. Guesses anywhere else will not count!
- The winner also gets a bonus prize. You do not have to register here on my blog or anything.
- The contest runs until August 16. At midnight that night, Pacific Time, the comments to this post will be closed. The winner will be announced in my August 17 post.
Good luck everyone! Have fun guessing!

9, 10 and 11 lbs = 30 lbs total
I’m gonna guess…. 24lbs!!!
(even tho a wise mancat would never, ever guess weight of bootiful girls.)
It’s a good contest! We won’t enter, but wish everyone luck! (And our human wants to know if the book will be available in Canada.)
Oh wow….this is hard!
Our guess is that the three of you weigh 28lbs together.
Sniffie and the Florida Furkids
My guess is 41 lbs, My cats would love to see that book!
This is going to be a tough one, but I’ll venture a guess:
8+15+9 = 32 pounds
Oh wow! Let’s see……..we’re going to guess 27lbs 8 ozs. I hope we WIN!!!
We’re gonna guess 33lbs 3oz.
Oh gosh, let’s see. We are going to guess 31 pounds, 6 ounces. Have a great day.
We have that same scale, only with the part that attaches on top. I am going to guess 25# 9oz!
wow, a nice book!! lemme guess:
29 lbs and 7 ounces
The ladies all look so fine that I am going to say 29.75#.
How about 40 pounds?
Your pal, Pip
Hmm…….I think that you weigh around 7 and a half pounds,Binga is around 9 and we’ll go with 13 for Boodie. I agree most of hers is fluff, but there is still a good bit of cat under there. So all together, 29 and a half pounds. But,I wonder how much pretty weighs?
32 lbs 2 ounces
I’m gonna guess 34 pounds…Have a great week!
We are guessing…
9.4 + 11.2 + 10.9 = 30.14
We think that’s what you 3 together weigh!!! Have a happy week!
@Fuzzy Tales – Yes, the book will be available in Canada. In fact, here is the Amazon.ca link (it will probably be in stores too):
http://www.amazon.ca/Dear-Sparkle-Cat-Cat-columnist/dp/1440503796/
It took awhile but we cauculated and cauclated and our mathmatical guess is: 30 pounds and 7ounces! We hope we will win! P.S.(we think we will win too!) <3 =^..^= mew =^..^= <3
A) Congratulations on your new book!
B) I’m guessing 38.8 pounds
C) Instead of getting a cat to sit on the scale here’s what I do: 1) human gets on the scale; 2) human notes its weight; 3) human holds cat while on scale; 4) human notes weight; 5) human subtracts human weight from human-and-cat weight; 6) wa-lah, cat weight.
My cat only weight 8 pounds. Of course, he’s missing something… http://smallandbig.blogspot.com/2008/10/stuff-not-on-my-cat.html

Oh my, we guess 31 pounds 7 ounces!
@P.L. Frederick Re: C… the only problem with that is that it would require my human to get on a scale, which she is loathe to do! And the only scale we have here is the baby scale, which I believe only goes up to 50 pounds. I am sure she weighs more than that, and even she will admit it.
We’re going with…. 32.5 lbs!!!
We weigh 37 pounds all together but we know you don’t weigh as much as we do! Our guess is 30.75 pounds (translates to 30 pounds and 12 ounces).
I’m thinking 33 pounds.
Hi Sparkle,
I think you are a pretty light kitty, and I think Boodie is a lot of fluff, so I’m going to guess 29 lbs and 2 oz for the three of you.
Hope I win!
Cassie
