Food Pets Die For: Shocking Facts About Pet Food
By Ann N. Martin

My human has almost always been careful about the cat food she gives us and always reads the ingredient labels. (Well, except for the time I won a photo contest and part of the prize was a year's worth of dry cat food. But she was still giving us the good canned stuff.) I thought maybe she was just being picky for us, but apparently it goes a lot deeper than that. This book is scary, especially when I think about all the cats out there that get just any old cat food that their humans find on sale. This writer, Ann Martin, found out that there's all sorts of disgusting stuff in a lot of commercially-made pet food, including euthanized cats and dogs that died of diseases like cancer! That gave me nightmares! There's even more bad stuff that goes into pet food, and this woman went to government agencies in the U.S. and Canada and no one seemed to care. After reading this book (or, rather, having my human read me the important parts), I'm beginning to think that maybe she should just make our food herself. There are actually recipes in the book so you can do that. She's being resistant, though - she says she barely has time to cook for herself. Dumb excuse, if you ask me. Maybe I should make her read the book again.
