Cat Books - From a Cat's Point of View
How to Get Your Cat to Do What You Want
By Warren Eckstein and Fay Eckstein
I would like to mention first off that I found the title to this book highly offensive. Imagine -
a book to teach humans how to manipulate cats! What nerve! (Not to mention that it can't be done.)
But after examining the chapters thoroughly, I've come to the realization that Warren Eckstein's book
title is a mere marketing ploy. The truth is that this book tells humans to do what us cats want them
to do! Eckstein teaches humans how to talk Cat (just the rudimentary stuff, but worthwhile for them
to know, all the same), how to find us the best scratching surfaces, how to build us a gym and how to
massage us. Basically he shows humans how to serve us quite nicely! Everything in this book is
focused on our needs and desires. I like Warren Eckstein! The only thing I'm not too sure about is
his insistence that our humans take us out of the house on field trips with a leash, and even on
vacation. I like staying indoors, thank you very much. But then, I live in a two-story house that has
a five-foot tall cat tree, various scratching surfaces and a wide variety of toys. I suppose not all
cats are as lucky as me, and if their living quarters are a bit cramped, I can see how getting out of
the house may be good for them. But overall, the information here is excellent. Every cat should
convince her human to buy this book. It's one of the best human training manuals out there.
