Cat Books - From a Cat's Point of View
Cat Be Good
By Annie Bruce
I'm not sure how my human ran across this book, since seems to be published by an exceedingly
small imprint. But I'm glad she found it because it has quite a bit of excellent advice about cat
behavior. It is also rather cute because the human who wrote it talks about how cats are trainable
and "cats are like people." This, of course, is pure silliness. Basically, this book has humans train
themselves to conform to cats' needs, and gives hints on how to think like a cat (since in reality we
are nothing like people at all), so they can cater to our every whim. I like the approach of this
book! And it shows how good we cats are at teaching humans to do tricks like giving us toys and
treats every time we misbehave (supposedly to distract us from whatever we are doing that's
supposedly "bad"). She also tells humans to ditch the spray bottles and stop punishing us, and
instead give us quality food and lots of attention, scratching posts and playtime so that we'll
continue to use our litter boxes and stop being feisty and aggressive. There's some requisite advice
about working with the vet, of course, and about aging felines. Plus the author is vehemently
anti-declaw, which is a requisite around here. I highly recommend that every kitty urge her human to
buy a copy of this book. The humans will think the advice is for them, but before they know what hit
them, they'll be wrapped around your dewclaw. Cat Be Good makes human manipulation a snap!
