Cat Books - From a Cat's Point of View
250 Things You Can Do to Make Your Cat Adore You
By Ingrid Newkirk
When I saw the title to this book, I just had to check it out. After all, humans need to know as
much as possible about pleasing us kitties. So I was a little disappointed to find that much of the
book consisted of basic cat care - general health maintenance, litter box cleanliness, spaying and
neutering, etc. There are a few chapters that some lazy humans might consider "extras," such as
learning cat language, keeping us entertained and holistic remedies (needless to say, these are in
reality pretty essential). One chapter I particularly took exception to concerned our food. See, the
author is the co-founder of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), and she believes that
with the proper supplementation, we cats can live on plant protein instead of meat. Personally, I
think this has a lot more to do with PETA's anti-cattle and poultry industry agenda than it has to do
with our health. While I agree that farm animals are treated very badly by the commercial food
industries and that cheap brands of cat food are not good for us, I still want my meat! If humans
really wanted a good diet for us cats, they would raise rats just for us, and then let them loose for
us to catch and eat. Now that would make any cat adore her human! So while there is some good
information in this book (food chapter aside), I could probably come up with much better ways to make
your cat adore you.
